WHAT DOES A MARRIAGE PREPARATION COURSE COVER?

If you are thinking of getting married in the Catholic Church, please speak to your parish priest as soon as possible as you must attend a marriage preparation course.
 
WHY DOES THE CHURCH REQUIRE ENGAGED COUPLES TO PARTICIPATE IN A MARRIAGE PREPARATION PROGRAM?
The Marriage Preparation Course is designed to help you to learn and to grow, both individually and as a couple. The Course also offers you as a couple the opportunity to develop a better understanding of Marriage as a |Sacrament. Opportunities for such learning and growth are created through the talks given by the presenting speakers.

 

Topics covered include:
  • Building your marriage of firm foundations
  • Family of Origin, Values and Attachment,
  • God’s vision of Marriage and Family Life,
  • Love Languages/ Communication, how to keep love alive in your marriage
  • Fertility Awareness
  • Sacred Scripture – understanding and choosing readings from Holy Scripture for the celebration of your Marriage
  • The Church’s teaching on Marriage, its sacramental nature the Marriage Ceremony and the solemn vows you will be making before God.

Don’t be apprehensive if one of you is not a Catholic. The aim of the course is to inform and help you to be a supportive and loving husband and wife, with God’s grace.

 

HOW LONG IS THE COURSE?

The Marriage Preparation Course takes place over:
two consecutive Saturdays from 10.30 a.m. – 1.30p.m.

Upon completion of the course, each couple will receive a "Certificate of Participation" from the Diocese to give to the Priest officiating at their wedding. 

To receive your "Certificate of Participation"from the Diocese of Motherwell,  you must attend both Saturdays of the course.

 

WHERE AND WHEN ARE THE COURSES HELD?

The Marriage Preparation Courses are held in the following:

  • St Mary’s Church Hall, Hozier Street, Whifflet, Coatbridge, ML5 4DB
  • St Mary’s Church Hall, Cadzow Street, Hamilton, ML3 6HP
    (Car park entrance from Muir Street).

WHO RUNS THE COURSES?

Married couples and priests who have given up their time to the Marriage Preparation Courses in the Diocese of Motherwell.

 

IS THERE A FEE?

There is a fee of £25 per couple to cover materials and other expenses. The Marriage Preparation Courses is not run for profit. The presenters give their time generously.  Compared to other wedding costs; it is a small price to pay.

 

REGISTRATION

  1. Please DO NOT register for this course unless you have already met with your Parish Priest.
  2. Your Parish Priest will have information and a copy of the Registration Form you need to complete for a place on the Marriage Preparation Course.
  3. Early Registration is recommended as places on the Marriage Preparation Course can fill up very quickly, so we encourage you to register as soon as possible!  
  4. After you have registered, you will receive a letter confirming your place on the course date you have chosen.
  5. To receive your "Certificate of Participation" from the Diocese, you must attend both Saturdays of the course.
