Newmains
Pastoral Centre was established by the Roman Catholic
Diocese of Motherwell in 1986. It functions as a centre
for diocesan agencies as well as providing a venue for
retreats, conferences and workshops for Church and non-church
groups. |
 |
| The main house, built
at the end of the 18th Century, was originally a Coachman’s
Inn. In 1882 the house became a “private residence”
and remained so until 1947 when the property was bought
by the Religious Sisters of the Helpers of the Holy
Souls. The Sisters built their retreat centre in part
of the spacious grounds of the 18th Century house.

In 1986 the property
was bought by the Diocese of Motherwell which strives
to carry on the work initiated by the Helpers of the
Holy Souls by providing a retreat facility which is
also available for conferences, seminars and meeting
as well as providing a centre for pastoral activity
for the Diocese and beyond. |
