Bishop Toal's Christmas Message

The Bishop wishes to impart this Christmas Message to clergy and laity in the diocese. Pope Francis wrote a lovely letter recently to us all from the Shrine of the Nativity at Greccio, the site of the First Christmas Crib set up by St Francis of Assisi in December 1223. He concluded his reflections on the beauty of the Christmas Crib as follows: “Dear Brothers and Sisters, the Christmas Crib is part of the precious but demanding process of passing on the faith. Beginning in childhood and at every stage of our lives, it teaches us to contemplate Jesus, to experience God’s love for us, to feel and believe that God is with us and that we are with him, his children, Brothers and Sisters all.

Bambinelli Sunday

Over the past number of decades, on the Third Sunday of Advent (Gaudete Sunday), children and adults bring their Baby Jesus figures from their homes to St Peters Square where they are blessed by the Pope. This year we will celebrate 'Bambinelli Sunday' at in parishes across the Diocese of Motherwell during Sunday Masses on the Third Sunday of Advent (December 15th). All children and families are invited to bring the Baby Jesus figure from their homes to be blessed before placing the Baby Jesus in your Crib on Christmas day. Families can make their own 'Bambinelli' if they wish. If you don't have a crib in your home then there is still time to get one to keep the real meaning of Christmas ali
