Closure of St Clare's Church, Easterhouse

Dear Parishioners of St John Bosco’s Parish, I write to explain the difficult situation we now face in regard to your parish. When St Benedict’s and St Clare’s formed the one parish of St John Bosco’s, we kept both churches open, providing the celebration of the Sacred Liturgy and other services and social events in both locations. This has become increasingly difficult, particularly in regard to St Clare’s, where a number of significant repairs are necessary, most notably the replacement of the heating system in the church as it has been condemned as unsafe for further use. Seminarians return to Rome

Our three seminarians in the Pontifical Scots College – Christopher Furmage, Kieran Burt and Ronan McQuade – are returning to Rome today to continue their studies for the Priesthood. Our prayers and good wishes go with them as they return to seminary life after these many months at home. Thanks to the priests and others who have accompanied them on their pastoral placements during this difficult period. Please remember our Seminarians at Oscott in your prayers also.

George Frame ordained to the Permanent Diaconate

Congratulations to Deacon George Frame who was ordained to the Permanent Diaconate by Bishop Toal on Tuesday 15th September, The Feast of Our Lady of Sorrows, in his home Parish of St Patrick's Coatbridge. Please keep George, his wife and family in your prayers as he prepares to give his life to God in service to the Church as begins his vocations as a Permanent Deacon. St Stephen, pray for him.

Celebrating the Season of Creation

The Season of Creation is marked throughout the Christian world from 1 September to 4 October (Feast of St. Francis of Assisi) and celebrates the joy of creation as well as encouraging awareness-raising initiatives to protect the natural environment. 'Let us return to the Eucharist with joy!' Cardinal Sarah writes on the liturgy during Covid-19

Cardinal Robert Sarah, Prefect of the Congregation for Divine Worship and the Discipline of the Sacraments, has published a letter this week to Bishops' across the world encouraging a return to the celebration of the Eucharist. Requiem Mass for Canon Hayes

The Requiem Mass for Canon Niall Hayes will take place, tomorrow, Wednesday 2nd September, at 12noon in St John Bosco Church in New Stevenston. His remains will be interred in St Patrick's Cemetery at about 1.15 pm. Bishop Toal and Fr Vivian Hayes will celebrate the Funeral Mass which will be live streamed online by Sancta Familia. Please note that due to current Coronavirus restrictions, only family members will be permitted inside the Church.
