Visit of the Relics of St Therese - Day One

The relics of St Therese arrived in the Diocese of Motherwell on Thursday night, 29th August. A large number of people gathered at St Teresa's Church, Newarthill, around 11pm, where the relics were welcomed by parish priest, Father Bill Bergin. The Church remained open all night for prayers and visits to the relics.

On Friday, 30th August, hundereds gathered as the relics were processed from St Teresa's Church to St Francis Xavier's Church. The procession was led by the North Lanarkshire School's Pipe Band and pupils of Taylor High School. On arrival at Carfin, the relics were officially welcomed by Bishop Toal followed by Holy Mass with the primary and secondary schools of the Diocese. Later in the afternoon, a Mass for the Sick was celebrated and hundreds more came to venerate the relics.

In the evening, over hundreds of people filled St Francis Xavier's Church, with hundreds more stood outside for Holy Mass celebrated by Bishop Toal. The homily was given by Canon John Udris of Oscott College, Birmingham. The Church remained open throughout the night with priests hearing Confessions during Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament, while people still came to visit the relics.
