We pray for the eternal repose of Canon Pat O’Hare, retired priest of this diocese who passed away peacefully in Our Lady, Mother of Mercy Nursing Home, Newry on Thursday 30th March.
Canon Pat turned 89 years of age a few days ago, 27th March, and served this diocese from his ordination in 1953 in the following parishes:
St. Barbara’s, Muirhead 1953-1958, Assistant priest
St. Bride’s. Cambuslang, 1958-1967, Assistant Priest
St. Clare’s, Easterhouse 1967-1972, Assistant Priest
St. Paul’s Hamilton, 1972-1977, Parish Priest
St. Gerard’s, Bellshill, 1977-1984, Parish Priest
Sacred Heart, Salsburgh/St. Catherine’s, Harthill 1984-1992, Parish Priest
St. Thomas, Wishaw, 1992-2002, Parish Priest
Canon O Hare’s funeral will be celebrated in St. Catherine’s Dominican Church in Newry on Tuesday 5th April at 12.30pm. Canon Pat’s former assistant, Fr. Harry O’Brien, will represent Bishop Toal and the Diocese and Fr. Harry will be the principal celebrant and homilist at the Mass. A memorial Mass for Canon O’Hare will be held in St, Thomas; Wishaw at some point in the near future. May Pat now enjoy rest from his labours for his good deeds go with him.
