Clergy Appointments

Dear brothers and sisters,

I hope this finds you well.

At the Plenary Meeting of the Bishops’ Conference of Scotland, held this week at the Conforti Centre in Coatbridge, the Bishops decided that, on completing his second three year term as General Secretary, Rev Fr Dr Gerard Maguiness, be released to return to Motherwell Diocese. Along with the other bishops I acknowledge Fr Maguiness’ outstanding contribution to the work of the Scottish Bishops’ Conference over the last six years, while being very pleased to welcome him back to parish ministry in Motherwell Diocese.

When his time as General Secretary ends in February 2026 Fr Maguiness will be appointed as Parish Priest of St Bride’s, Cambuslang, succeeding Fr Paul Morton, to whom I have granted a sabbatical.

I take this opportunity also to thank Fr Morton for his 25 years of priestly ministry in St Bride’s, recognising the quality of his care for the people of St Bride’s over these years, and wishing him every blessing as he prepares to leave.
