Clergy Changes

Bishop Toal has announced the following clergy appointments within the Diocese. Bishop Toal wishes to thank the priests who have agreed to move and for their ministry in their positions. We ask God’s blessing for them as they prepare to move.

FATHER JAMES GRANT

Father Grant, at present the General Secretary of the Bishops’ Conference of Scotland has been appointed Parish Priest of St Francis Xavier’s, Carfin, and Guardian of The National Shrine of Our Lady of Lourdes, Carfin. He will take up this appointment from the weekend of 8th/9th February in succession to Father Francis McGachey who stood down in December 2019 on health grounds.

FATHER GERARD MAGUINNESS

Father Maguiness, at present the Parish Priest of St Ignatius’ Wishaw, is being released by the Diocese to succeed Fr Grant as General Secretary of the Bishops’ Conference. He will live at the Bishops’ Conference Offices at St Serf’s in Airdrie.

FATHER STEPHEN ROONEY

Father Rooney has been appointed Parish Priest of St Ignatius', Wishaw from the weekend of 15th/16th February. Father Rooney is currently Parish Priest of Our Lady of Fatima Parish in Larkhall and Blackwood.

FATHER SEAN WYLLIE

Father Wyllie, Assistant Priest at Our Lady of Lourdes Parish, East Kilbride, has been appointed Parish Priest of Our Lady of Fatima Parish in Larkhall and Blackwood. He will take up this appointment from the weekend of 15th/16th February.
