Canon James Foley RIP


Canon James Foley sadly died on Wednesday 23rd September 2015.

Canon Foley was ordained in 1955 and his first placement was at Motherwell Cathedral where he was assistant priest until 1956. In 1956, he was sent to Scots College Rome for further studies where he remained until 1965. After he completed his studies in Rome, he was placed on the staff at the seminary of St Peter's College, Cardross. In 1977 he was appointed as parish priest at St. Mary’s Parish in Coatbridge St Mary's, before being named as parish priest at St Augustine's Coatbridge in 1985.

In 2001 he was appointed to the Chapter of Canons. He would spend the rest of his priestly ministry at St Augustine’s, retiring on 1st November 2014. In June 2015 he celebrated his Diamond Jubilee of ordination to the priesthood.



FUNERAL ARRANGEMENTS FOR CANON FOLEY


Thursday 1st October

Canon Foley’s mortal remains will be received very simply and without formal ceremony into St. Augustine’s church, Coatbridge at 4.00.pm. Thereafter the church will remain open for private visits for priests and people to pay their respects and spend some time in prayer. At 8.00pm there will be a public rosary after which the church will close.

Friday 2nd October

The church will be opened for the usual 10.00am Mass on Friday and remain open for private visits until 3.45pm when the church will be closed.

At 7.00pm, Canon Foley’s remains will be formally received into the church. At Canon Jim’s special request, the reception of his remains will be followed by the celebration of Holy Mass.

Saturday 3rd` October

Mass of Christian Burial in St. Augustine’s at 11.30am followed by interment in Old Monkland Cemetery, Coatbridge.
