Through the 100 years of the Grotto God has been praised and Our Lady and the Saints honoured. In that spirit of worship and praise we gather to offer our Mass of Thanksgiving for these 100 years, and in doing so we recall with deep gratitude all who have been part of the Grotto’s history and mission. We thank God for the life and ministry of Canon Thomas Taylor, and all the clergy and lay faithful who worked with him and those who have followed them to the present day. May the departed take there place in the Communion of Saints in Heaven, and may those of us on earth continue to be blessed by the graces bestowed upon us at the Grotto of Our Lady of Lourdes at Carfin.
We welcome His Excellency Archbishop Claudio Gugerotti, Apostolic Nuncio to Great Britain, to Carfin for the Centenary Mass of Thanksgiving and thank him for his presence with us again the Diocese of Motherwell, and particularly on this special anniversary of our recently declared National Shrine to Our Lady of Lourdes.
