Whole School Lent

St Gerard's, Bellshill

In the school foyer we have a Lenten display which sums up all of our work in the school assemblies during Lent.

At the bottom right are the Stations of the Cross which we have prayed as a school.  These are written and illustrated by the pupils.

To the left, there is a display entitled 'We are God's Work of Art', which features artwork by and about pupils.  The title is taken from the theme for the HCPT Lourdes pilgrimage for 2012, which will be led by the Scottish region of HCPT - The Pilgrimage Trust.  Two teachers and one pupil will be travelling with HCPT at Easter, and so the school has chosen the Trust as one of its sponsored charities for Lent 2012.

To the right of the display are Easter cards which the younger classes made to raise money for our other nominated charity, St Andrew's Hospice.

St Bernadette's, Motherwell

For Lent we have set up a 'Road to Calvary' in the entrance foyer of the school.  Children receive a picture of a shepherd to colour if they undertake prayer, fasting or almsgiving (there are 3 to collect).

These figures are stuck onto the path, which snakes all around the entrance foyer of school to the foot of the cross.  This cross, with it's draped purple cloth, is a small replica of the one in St Bernadette's church, which many of the children see every morning during Lent before school at 8.25 Mass.

St Bridgid's, Newmains

We thought you might like a photograph of our Lenten appeal for your website. This display was in prominent position in the main corridor. This was a whole school effort to raise money for SCIAF. We took the resources from the SCIAF website and adapted them. As you can see from the display, each class had their own graph area where they collated 'Wee boxes' and 'Silk Worm businesses.' Each box represents £1. After collecting  Â£5, a cocoon was placed in the Silk Worm Farm in the centre. Furthermore on collecting £17 all 17 wee boxes were replaced by a Silk Worm Business symbol.

We had great fun watching and comparing the bars on the graph. Data handling took on a new light!

We raised £924.07, 3 times more than last year!
